Sample letter to teachers for local oratory contest

Below is a sample letter you can write to teachers in your affiliate area to promote your local contest. Simply cut and paste this text into your word processor. Please feel free to edit this as you see fit:

Dear Teacher,

I am writing to share some exciting information with you and your class. Each year (affiliate name) sponsors an oratory contest for high school students. This event involves researching, writing and presenting a speech on abortion, euthanasia, infanticide, cloning or stem cell research. Our contest will be held this year (date, time, location).

Students reap several benefits from the oratory contest. In addition to developing public speaking and leadership abilities, students practice research and writing skills, learn more about critical current issues and educate others. Participants become active members of their community, forming what may become a lifelong habit. All aspects of the contest suit it for consideration as an assignment or extra credit project in your classroom.

Along with the above-mentioned rewards, the top three contest winners receive monetary awards and all students receive honorary certificates. Our first place winner will advance to Lansing's state contest in May, and in July the state winner will compete with students from across the U.S. at the National Right to Life Committee, Inc oratory contest.

Please encourage student involvement in this worthwhile outreach. Upon receipt of their application form we will contact them with further details. The materials enclosed will help you promote this event; however, I am also available to make brief presentations to schools and classrooms and would be happy to set up a time to do so.
