2012 Oratory Contest Sample Letter/E-mail

The following text can be used as a letter or e-mail promoting your contest. Letters and e-mails can be sent to your own membership list, teachers, pastors, youth group leaders and used as messages through social networking profiles. Feel free to edit it as you wish and customize it to the audience receiving it.

I am writing to share some exciting information about our efforts to reach out to youth in ________ County. Each year, ________ Right to Life sponsors an oratory contest for high school students. This event involves researching, writing and presenting a speech on abortion, euthanasia, infanticide, cloning or stem cell research. Our contest will be held this year at ________.

Students receive several benefits from participating in our oratory contest. In addition to building confidence in their public speaking, students practice research and writing skills. They gain experience with their critical thinking abilities in constructing persuasive arguments. Most importantly, they develop the ability to talk about these important prolife issues with their friends and other students.

Along with the educational benefits, the top three contest winners receive prizes and our first place winner will advance to state contest sponsored by Right to Life of Michigan in May. In June, the state winner will compete with teens from across the nation at the National Right to Life Committee oratory contest.

Please encourage involvement in this worthwhile outreach. After receiving a student's application form we will contact them to give them contest rules and further details. The materials enclosed will help you promote this event. I am also available to make brief presentations to classrooms, youth groups or any other gathering and would be happy to set up a time to do so.
