Do-Not-ResuscitateS.B. 452 of 1996 Effective Date: June 12, 1996 On a regular basis, emergency medical technicians (EMTs) are dispatched to a scene where a terminally ill patient has died. In a hospital, the available staff already know that emergency CPR should not be administered. EMTs unfortunately do not have that advantage. This legislation allows patients and their physicians to execute a legal document (Do-Not-Resuscitate Order) properly instructing EMTs about withholding CPR when they come upon a deceased person in a non-hospital setting. |
